The 21st century is also called the “era of emotion.” In a market where technology is equalized, designs are what move the minds of consumers by touching their emotions. Designs that have a story adding meaning to products are the creative fuel that enriches the nation and the force behind future growth that enables sustainability.

Aiming to further motivate the Korean design industry, the Korea Institute of Design Promotion has been actively carrying out various activities and providing support to enhance the national image and thus strengthening the industrial competitiveness of Korea through boosting the competitiveness of Korea’s design industry.

Among those activities, the Good Design Awards have been given to Korea’s small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as top-notch companies eager to make highest-quality design products, which are considered to help the nation’s design competitiveness and the growth of the national export in the course.

Every year, the KIDP selects products of outstanding design and award them the Good Design mark in recognition. It is a highly regarded certification program that helps companies take pride in their achievements, and enables consumers to make informed decisions.

Extraordinary design products are selected among the Good Design mark awardees as the Good Design Award through strict criteria such as the creativity and contribution to the national exports industry.

The Good Design Award is categorized as the following six areas: Award of President, Award of the Prime Minister, Award of the Minister MKEA, Award of the Administrator PPS, Award of the Administrator SMB, Award of the President of KIDP.

By recognizing and rewarding excellently designed products, the GD selection promotes the advancement of design and encourages innovation and creativity through quality products that contribute to aesthetically and practically enhancing the daily lives.

Ultimately, the GD selection also aims to improve the quality of life by improving product design, and to contribute to the development of design by expanding public awareness of the field.

As of the end of October 2012, a total of 615 products have been given Good Design mark by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion among 1,739 candidates through strict criteria. In addition, 70 products were selected from among the Good Design mark awardees for Good Design Awards.

Particularly, the 2012 GD awards have been added with Design for Kids in a bid to create new higher value-added business market. Korea’s Buyers Guide describes and recommends these Korean companies that were awarded the 2012 Good Design Awards to international buyers and marketers.
