The quantitative calculations of clothing thermal insulation and the provision of such information help people choose a garment, contributing to the improvement of public health in the same way that nutritional information is given. Accordingly, this technology employs Body Mapping technology which provides a selectively optimal thermal insulation to the human body intensively required to keep warm, thus protecting the person wore by a garment from cold. In addition, considering movements and postures in outdoor activities, the technology reflected ergonomic design and global trends to develop aesthetic and fashionable products and provide consumers with reliable technological information on apparel related to clothing thermal insulation. This is helpful for the wearer to purchase clothes. To develop high-sensitive stylish outdoor jackets, there are several technical processes: developing design for outdoor jackets that emphasize aesthetic qualities through the planning of fashion and the development of products’ design; developing trial manufactured goods with increased thermal insulation, greater comfort, and light activity through the design of ergonomic pattern and its sewing; calculating the thermal insulation value of products through performance assessment (using thermal manikin and wearing assessment on the body, etc.) of finished goods or the state of fabric; developing labels that indicate performance certification of the thermal insulation value as well as wearing information; and promoting BI and marketing of end products. With such processes, outdoor jackets labeled with information on thermal insulation are produced.
Industrialization: In various conditions where outdoor clothes are worn, two factors should be considered: cold and hot climates and body heat production from physical activities. So it is imperative to quantify information on cold and hot environments. In particular, the mere characteristics of fabric materials have limitations regarding the adjustment of the temperature and moisture of clothing. In this regard, to improve comfort when persons wear clothes, there is also another factor to be considered: the outlets of heat and moisture caused by the composition of clothing and the design of its pattern. When consumers choose clothes, the products also necessarily provide exact information on the garment. In recent years, outdoor garments are made by using artificial intelligence textiles with various features of higher thermal insulation, lighter weight, water resistance, suitably dryness, and warm and cold thermal insulation. In this regard, there is growing evidence that textiles with diverse functions are used for one garment. However, there are lacks in the provision of comprehensive information in terms of the design of products, the making of pattern, the sewing technology, and various functional aspects. In Korea, where the outdoor clothing market provides few information on the wearing of clothing thermal insulation depending on the weather and the amount of activity, so if a wearer is provided with such clothing information, the wearer can properly respond to weather changes. Accordingly, this could serve as an opportunity to increase consumers’ awareness by securing technical advantages that can make it possible to reduce cold-and heat-stress and labeling marks to easily provide information. The methods for providing information on clothing thermal insulation, one of factors among this development contents, include using various labels such as a descriptive label, which is compulsory, and a brand label, which is optional, and putting and promoting wappen, label, care label, and tag by developing additional marks indicating that the clothing is functional one in the certification process in terms of clothing thermal insulation. Under the circumstances, providing exact information on clothing thermal insulation could inspire consumer confidence, ultimately encourage consumers to choose clothes with clothing information, and expand the related market. In the energy-climate era, the main concerns involve clothing campaigns such as cool biz and warm biz around the world to conserve energy. This technology development produced a technology that could lead to energy conservation through the prevention of excessive heating in winters not so as to wear either light or thick clothes in clothing thermal insulation in environmental temperature by presenting optimal clothing thermal insulation garments depending on environmental temperature, and that could protect the human body from cold, therefore satisfying two functions. Core technology : The concept of high-functional clothing for sports and leisure evolves from “wear” to “gear.” This requires scientific design-based high-tech design technology, in which textile materials are required to have not only high tech but also aesthetic qualities and comfort at the same time. Body mapping is one of the methods that are applicable to the state-of-the-art design of clothes and is a technique representing the characteristics of body parts. The body mapping is designed to quantitatively calculate different requirements for each part of the body, and map the body in three dimensions. In this process, it helps select, place different materials or patterns depending on each part, or find a targetable part, and then determine the suitable materials and design for the part: the technology makes it possible to maximize comfort and function. In this development technology, the object is applied with body mapping technology to develop an ergonomic pattern that makes it possible to produce goods providing optimal thermal insulation and comfort. In other words, in the case of down jacket, one of the objects in the development technology, the main factor is to develop products that could meet the requirements for four elements such as economics, lightness, thermal insulation, and activity. In this technology, a thermal manikin, one of physical methods for measuring the thermal insulation value of finished clothes, is used to verify the measurement and performance of the thermal insulation of the object for development. Based on this, the exact performance of outdoor jackets with improved thermal insulation is evaluated, and the resultant outcomes are used as information that is provided to consumers.
