Paris Baguette and Ediya Open First Stores in Laos
Korean franchises target Southeast Asia.
K-food experience and dining-out demand are expanding.
Major South Korean bakery and coffee franchises are accelerating their expansion into Southeast Asia, opening their first stores in Laos. In Southeast Asia, interest in K-food is high due to the spread of the Korean Wave, and demand for cafes and dining out is growing with urbanization and the expansion of the middle class. Laos, in particular, is considered a market with high potential due to its large young consumer base.
Paris Baguette and Ediya Coffee have signed master franchise (MF) agreements with local conglomerate Kolao Group and opened their first Laos stores in Vientiane, the capital. Both stores are located at Kok Kok Mega Mall in the city’s Patuxai commercial district. Paris Baguette announced that its first Laos store is a 360-square-meter bakery café with 72 seats. The store offers globally popular items such as Fresh Yogurt Cream Cake, along with products tailored to local tastes, including the Musang King Durian Roll Cake.
Ediya Coffee’s first Laos store targets local consumers by featuring popular Korean menu items such as Dalgona Latte, as well as desserts like walnut cakes and fish-shaped bread. The plan is to provide a K-Café experience by showcasing menus beloved in Korea alongside those reflecting the tastes of local consumers.
Korea’s burger brand Mom’s Touch has signed an MF agreement with Singaporean retailer FairPrice Group and will open its first store in Singapore this month. It also plans to open more than 25 stores in Singapore over the next 10 years. BBQ has also successively opened stores in Ho Chi Minh City in the south, following Hanoi in the north.
