Users work with a footplate support, slowly pressing with the heel and the upper-foot side for three seconds. The exercise alternates between the left and right foot four or five times a day before gentle lowering and massage.
The device responds to concerns about falls, limited access to outside exercise facilities, and the difficulty of sustaining exercise over time. Its indoor format brings lower-limb practice closer to the places where older adults already spend their day.
Lower-Body Exercise Device
STEDI Power focuses on the calf and lower-body muscles that contribute to physical balance. The user aligns each foot with a marked position, presses the support plate slowly with the calf for three seconds, and alternates sides.
The routine can be repeated up to four or five times a day according to individual ability, followed by slow lowering and stretching. It is intended to build stronger, more stable walking through regular lower-body exercise.
STEDI equipment uses a semi-permanent spring and sliding mechanism for operation and storage. Metal construction, a double safety device, and flame-retardant wood address durability and safety in indoor facilities serving older adults.
The series is based on a National Rehabilitation Center patent and transferred technology. Field verification involved Incheon Technopark, the Michuhol-gu Senior Human Resources Development Center, and the National Rehabilitation Center, with user feedback applied during design improvement.
Both devices are meant to support simple repeated routines rather than complicated training sessions. Their pressing, holding, lowering, and stretching steps can be adjusted to individual ability, allowing supervised facilities to incorporate practice into established daily exercise schedules.
