Major appliance manufacturers in Korea have placed increasing emphasis on small appliances. Although the small household appliance market in Korea is still a niche marekt, it is one of the most fast growing markets in the country where the number of single- or two-person households has been growing at a rapid speed.
The data collected in 2010 showed that 23% of total households were made up of just one person. In addition, National Statistical Office estimates that single-person households will account for more than 34.3 percent in 2035.The number of couples without children is also on the rise in the country. Such changing demographics has created new maekts for smaller appliances and encouraged appliance manufacturers to keep pace with the marekt needs. In line with such growing trends, top-mount refrigerator, side-by-side refrigerator, front-load washing machine, microwave oven, etc., which provides simlar or more high-perforamnce of their heavey counterparts but feature compact and space-saving design, gaining populairty.

Dongbu Daewoo Electronics recently rolled out multi-functional oven with air fryer feature called Fryer Oven. It is a microwave oven combining with convection, grill, combinationa and air fryer. It is able to cook favorite foods without the need for any oil. Using a combination of rapidly circulating hot air and a grill element, it makes fried food containing up to 80% less fat than a standard fryer. It preserves the nutrients to ensure healthy and tasty food in seconds. In addition to air fryer function, its 24-liter convection series features a convection oven setting provides special cooking functions such as smart power-off function, deodorization function and auto cook programmes. Its intuitive design will match any kitchen.

Dongbu Daewoo Electronics’ front-load washing machine is the world’s smallest wall-mounted 3kgcapacity front-loader, which is only 1/6 size of the typical 15kg-capacity front-loader (550 x 600 x 292mm). Its innovative wall-mount design protects users from backaches and saves both space and energy. The ultraslim 29.2cm product can be mounted on any wall and users don’t need to bend down to load and unload their laundry. This new product was invented to address the problem of conventional big-sized washers consuming large amounts of water and energy even when washing small loads. This is useful for singles or small families with babies who need to wash small loads of clothing frequently. To be specific, it consumes 80% less water and 86% less electricity within a 60% shorter time frame.
