The Suncheonman International Garden Expo 2023 is set to take place in South Korea, celebrating the beauty of garden culture and marking the 10th anniversary of the 2013 Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo. The event, which attracted over 4.4 million visitors a decade ago, aims to elevate the status of South Korean garden culture on a global stage and serve as a catalyst for the development of the garden industry in the region.
Held from April 1 to October 31, 2023, the expo will span three zones, including the city center, Suncheon Bay National Garden, and Suncheon Bay Wetland, covering a total area of 193 hectares. The theme “Living in the Garden” will be explored, with a focus on “Garden Together,” “Restorative Nature,” and “Circular Economy.” These themes will showcase Suncheon as an ecological city while highlighting the importance of preserving its natural environment.
Over 8 million visitors are expected to attend the sevenmonth-long event, including 320,000 foreign tourists, from more than 30 countries. The expo will feature approximately 860,000 trees and 650,000 autumn flowers, such as roses, sunflowers, and cosmos flowers, spread across the expansive gardens.
Suncheon Bay Garden was designated as South Korea’s first National Garden in 2015, attracting over 5 million visitors annually. The 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo will further promote the region’s garden culture and stimulate the garden industry through workshops and other initiatives, such as the recent event held at the Suncheon Bay International Wetland Center.
