Lacquered Wood Tumbler
Chilhaeone’s Lacquered Wood Tumbler is made by drying and carving wood for a long time, then applying multiple thin coats of Korean lacquer to bring out the natural wood grain.
The Lacquered Wood Tumbler is 99.9% antibacterial, preventing mold and eliminating the need for regular sanding or oiling. The tumbler can resist temperatures up to 200°C, making it suitable for both cold and hot beverages. Its low thermal conductivity keeps your hands warm, ensuring comfortable use. It is impervious to detergents and food, and is extremely lightweight. The lacquer has high urushiol content, making the product more durable.
Lacquer is a natural paint obtained from the sap of lacquer trees. The refined version is called urushi lacquer. Lacquer has been used as a traditional finishing material in East Asia including Korea, Japan, and China for thousands of years. It is applied to wood, metal, fabric, and ceramics to enhance durability, water resistance, and antibacterial properties.
The main ingredient of lacquer is urushiol, which reacts with moisture in the air after curing, creating an extremely hard and smooth surface. It also features a natural luster and excellent antibacterial and antifungal properties as an eco-friendly material.
The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism selected Chilhaeone as an excellent craft product, recognizing its stability and product quality in 2023.
