As eyewear establishes itself as a fashion accessory, domestic companies such as Gentle Monster are accelerating their plans to expand into overseas markets.
Gentle Monster plans to increase the number of its overseas locations from the current 50 stores to around 60 by the end of this year.
It has also unveiled a strategy for products combined with artificial intelligence (AI), planning to launch ‘Intelligent Eyewear,’ AI glasses currently under development in collaboration with Google and Samsung Electronics, in the second half of this year. For this project, Gentle Monster is in charge of the design.

MUUT, which launched in 2024 with its first store in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, is also rapidly expanding its business, currently operating seven stores in Korea and four overseas three in Taiwan and one in Singapore. Based on its experience with opening pop-up stores in Tokyo, Ginza, Osaka, and Nagoya in Japan last year, the company is considering opening its first stores in Japan and China this year.
‘Double Lovers’ is also chasing Gentle Monster by opening standalone stores in Seongsu and Myeongdong last year, followed by one in Gangnam earlier this year. Furthermore, the company is scheduled to open a store in a department store in Tokyo, Japan, this year, and is currently in discussions with local distributors to open pop-up stores in major commercial districts in China within the year.
‘Carin’ opened its first Japanese flagship store in Omotesando, a commercial hub of Japan, late last year and is aiming to open its second store in Japan and first store in China this year.
