Wearable Gait Analysis
[INQ. NO. 2610C14] eCEN Care combines a Class I wearable medical device with AI gait analytics and a clinician dashboard. The system supports recovery following surgical procedures on the knee by connecting daily movement and rehabilitation exercises with objective data available to clinicians.
Patients wear the lightweight eCEN Tracker during everyday activities and exercise. Inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors capture knee angle, walking speed, stride length and joint kinematics, converting movement into measurements that can support ongoing rehabilitation assessment.
Data stream securely to the patient’s mobile app and the hospital’s web portal. This links patients and clinicians through shared movement information, enabling timely, data-informed interventions when recovery progress needs to be reviewed throughout the period of rehabilitation at home.
Home rehabilitation can be difficult when mobility is limited, instructions are unclear and follow-up visits are infrequent. The system addresses the lack of objective longitudinal movement data between regular outpatient appointments, which may be three to six months apart.
A multicenter clinical study involving postoperative knee patients at several university hospitals found significantly faster functional recovery in the eCEN Care group than in standard care. Walking speed and knee flexion angle showed greater improvements.

Patient satisfaction was also markedly higher in the multicenter clinical study. The combination of wearable measurement, a patient app and a hospital dashboard supports an approach to recovery that extends movement-based assessment beyond individual visits to the clinic.
eCEN Inc. was founded in Korea in 2018 and develops wearable sensor systems and AI software. It converts patients’ movements into digital biomarkers, pursuing predictive and personalized healthcare informed by evidence from clinical settings, with a mission of equitable access to high-quality recovery support.

Technology transferred from KIST provided IMU-based gait analysis and ontology-based motion insight capabilities. Korean MFDS medical-device approval followed in 2020, supporting the company’s subsequent supply of eCEN Care to more than fifteen leading Korean university hospitals.
Customers include Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital and Korea University Anam Hospital. Clinical use has generated substantial gait-analysis data, supporting a phased expansion toward the United States, China and Europe.
