Youngju Food has recently presented onion kimchi using onions cultivated in Changnyeong, Gyeongnam. The onion is a geographical specialty of Changnyeong that has been registered on the Geographical Indication.
Responding to consumers becoming more health conscious, Youngju Food launched research for healthy foods with loss-weight effect and it finally came up with onion kimchi.
Through three years of efforts in its in-house R&D lab, the company has succeeded in making its onion kimchi retain the crunchy texture that fresh onions but have less pungent taste by adding sweet-and-sour seasonings.
The onion kimchi matches well with bread as a side dish as well as soup or meat dishes.
The recent studies have showed that onions are a healthy food that is rich in the quercetin, which helps prevent various lifestyle diseases, with anti-cancer effect and blood vessel condition improvement.
Onions are also rich in vitamin B1 and allyl sulfide, which help prevent fat from being accumulated in the body if you eat them together when eating meat.
The Korean company displayed its onion kimchi during FOODEX JAPAN in 2015 and 2014, being well-received by international buyers, and the onion kimchi is drawing good response among European buyers as well.
